InStep Sync Single Bicycle Trailer Review – Great For Children

By Neil Leave a Comment

InStep Sync Single Bicycle Trailer ReviewAre you looking for a way to bring your kids on bike trips with you? Are your kids too young to ride a bike or too inexperienced to ride longer distances? Throughout the years, manufacturers have come up with a multitude of solutions, but the best of these is a bike trailer that attaches to the back of your bicycle so you can haul your children with you.

InStep Sync Single Bicycle Trailer Review

The InStep Sync Single Bicycle Trailer is your best option! Its versatile design makes it perfect for a single-passenger trailer. It is durable and attaches to almost any bike and it a great value for the price! The simple design makes it easy to fold down for super easy storage in a small space. It also folds down for easy transportation. This bike trailer is very easy to assemble and easy to set up on your bike. This trailer easily fits one child up to 50 pounds and comes with a mesh bug screen and a plastic rain screen to keep your little one safe and shaded from some of the elements. On a nice day, the mesh screen acts as a shield for small rocks that get kicked up while riding, while allowing air to circulate without your child getting bit by bugs or injured by dust or debris! In the back of the trailer, there is also a space where you can fit a small cooler or other items behind the seat. The only issue some seem to have with this trailer is that is a little difficult to get the child out of the seat quickly. The canopy must be undone to put the child in and remove them.

How to Set it Up

The InStep Sync Single Bicycle Trailer comes with the seat and sides already assembled. To assemble the trailer portion:

  1. Fold out the sides and put the walls up.
  2. Click each part into place and snap the bar into place.
  3. Place the tow bar in place and unlock the pin on the tow bar’s bracket. Turn the tow bar so it faces forward. Reattach the sin, so it is secure.
  4. Attach the tires to the rear brackets. You will know it is secure when the wheels click into place.
  5. Make sure your wheels are inflated to the correct PSI, which is written on the side wall of your tires.
  6. Steady your bike and remove the skewer from the rear wheel of the bike.
  7. Setting up the canopy is simple: the canopy has easy-to-snap buttons and straps.

Assembly to The Bike

Attached the trailer to the bike takes about 15 minutes or less.

  1. Turn your bike upside down to easier access to the wheel nuts.
  2. Loosen and remove the nuts and washers from the back tire of the bike.
  3. Put the washer that you removed from the trailer onto the axle.
  4. Align the knobs on the washer with the holes on the coupler plate. Place coupler plate on the axle. Make sure the bigger hole is towards the bottom.
  5. Screw the nut and washer back into place.
  6. Place the tow bar into the bottom hole of the coupler plate.
  7. Insert the locking pin to secure it and make sure the safety loop is attached on the pin.
  8. Wrap the safety strap around the frame.

Safety

The InStep Sync Single Bicycle Trailer comes with a 5-Point safety harness that keeps your child very secure while you are riding. Adjust the height of the shoulder strap so it fits the child correctly and snugly. There are three heights to choose from. Bike trailers are one of the best and safest way to bring your child with you on a bike ride. In a trailer, the child is lower to the ground so in the event of a crash the child will fall a shorter distance. Even though the child is protected in the trailer, always put a helmet on them.

Before taking a child for a ride in a bike trailer, ask your pediatrician if your child is ready first. Then test it out. Ride with a gallon of milk in the back of the trailer, stepped in and everything. Is the milk foamy when you stop? The ride might be too bumpy for your child! Often we don’t realize how bumpy and uneven the roads or bike paths are. This is magnified for children in the bike trainer because they are lower to the ground.

When is it safe to bring your child along for a ride?

Researchers recommend that the child must be at least one year old before you strap them into a bike trailer. A baby’s brain development during the early years is super important, and exposing them to mild repeated bumps on the road can cause brain trauma.

Does it work well?

Assuming that you have the InStep Single Bicycle Trailer assembled correctly and the child is old enough and secured into the trailer with a bike helmet, the trailer itself works great! This trailer is a wonderful way to get exercise while bonding with your baby and others on the road.
